Editorial Policy

How the guides on this site are researched, sourced and kept current.

What counts as a source

Technical claims are checked against public engineering references: ASTM standards (B777 for tungsten heavy alloy and related specifications), general references on machining processes (CNC turning and milling, grinding, wire and sinker EDM) and material property reviews. Most guides list their sources at the bottom of the page. We do not cite other sites in this portfolio or any single shop's marketing claims as a source.

Why numbers say "typical"

Density, hardness and tolerance figures vary by mill, lot, heat treatment and shop capability. Where a guide gives a number, it is labeled typical and describes a common range, not a guarantee for your part. The shop that quotes your drawing confirms what it can hold on your specific geometry.

What we do not publish

No invented client counts, years in business, staff counts or certifications. No testimonials we cannot attribute. No defense, ammunition or armor use cases. When we are not sure of a number, we say so or leave it out rather than guess.

Review cadence

Guides carry a "Reviewed" date separate from the publish date. A review checks that cited standards and sources still match the text and that no claim has drifted from what shops tell us in practice. A review does not always change the words on the page.

Who writes this

Content is written and reviewed by the Tungsten Machining editorial team, the same people who read RFQs and talk to shops day to day. This is a small, single-operator service, not a newsroom, and we say so rather than imply otherwise.

Report an error

If a guide gets a standard, a number or a process wrong, email with the page URL and what looks off. We correct factual errors and update the reviewed date.
